The Gnomon Workshop have recently introduced Digital Download Editions of all of their DVD products. Content and project files are identical to the DVD versions, but there is no DVD interface included. Due to this Difference, we are tagging any Gnomon.Digital and Gnomon.Analogue releases with DDE (Digital Download Edition) if they are not the original DVDs. With his value in place, Craig finishes the drawing with dark charcoal lines and deliberate strokes. He carves out the well worn character of his subject's face and lifts out highlights with a kneaded eraser. Throughout the workshop, Craig Nelson emphasizes restraint, "under doing" each step until he finds the right moment to bring his subject into focus. He was the Product Manager for ZBrush 3 at Pixologic where he worked with programmers and artists to fuse traditional and digital art. While at Pixologic, Ryan consulted with companies such as ILM, Sony Pictures Imageworks, Bungie Studios, Ubisoft and Electronic Arts to integrate digital sculpting into their production pipelines. Currently, Ryan is a resident artist at The Gnomon Workshop where he continues to sculpt, share his passion for digital art and teach.

Gnomon Workshop: Exterior Environment Lighting and Rendering for Production

In this DVD, after setting up various production lighting rigs, Tim discusses the pros and cons of each solution. You will learn when to use one type of rig over another based on the goals of the project, as well as how to deal with the challenges that different scene elements create for your lighting setups. Tim will also show you how to render passes out of 3ds Max, composite them using Digital Fusion and set up your lighting in real-time using floating point image formats. Finally, you will learn how to set up a scene for multiple lighting scenarios including day, sunset and night shots. Software used: 3ds Max, Digital Fusion, V-Ray.

The Gnomon Workshop Visual Development DVD
In this series, Marc Gabbana walks you through his visual development process as he creates the TribalBot, a forest dwelling robotic vehicle. In this second volume, he begins by adding tone to his pen drawings using Adobe Photoshop. Marc demonstrates how to work with values and shading, and he shares his methodology for layer management. He also shows you which custom brushes he uses as he adds dimension to his designs. Through his gray scale paintings, Marc emphasizes how value, composition and lighting are all integral for creating drama and mood in a scene. Lastly, he shows you how to combine various tone images to create new and unexpected lighting scenarios. The final image is a fully painted TribalBot ready to pounce off the screen.
